Words by Fatherly Echoes | Interview Answers by Pipoy (Vocalist, Hypernoia)
When a band chooses a name like Hypernoia—a mix of “hyper” and “paranoia”—you already sense that something wild, restless, and deeply thoughtful is about to erupt from their sound. True enough, this six-piece experimental rock outfit from Quezon Province lives up to the name.
“Meaning niya ay thinking too hard,” explains Pipoy, the band’s vocalist and songwriter, who answered in behalf of the group. “Ganun yung flow ng songwriting at pag-aareglo namin. Tsaka bagay din siguro dahil hyper din kami sa stage.”
Formed just this year, Hypernoia was born out of transformation. Five of its members came from a previous band called Melorite. When their drummer left, fate introduced them to Jemuel Caday from Faded Chroma—and with that one lineup change, the old band evolved into something new.
“Naisip na naming i-disband yung Melorite at gawin na lang Hypernoia,” says Pipoy. “Bagong simula, bagong tunog.”
A Brotherhood Forged in Sound
The band’s current lineup feels like a web of friendships turned into sonic chemistry:
- Pipoy – Vocalist / Songwriter
- Jm Fanio – Lead Guitar
- Jp Ocampo – Rhythm / Lead Guitar
- Ethan Ramos – Bass
- Renan Mabutol – Keyboard
- Jemuel Caday – Drums
“Magkapitbahay kami dati ni Jm sa Southgate,” Pipoy recalls. “Si Jp at Jemuel kaibigan ko na noon pa. Si Ethan recruit ni Jp, tapos si Renan naman recruit ni Ethan. Parang domino effect lang.”
Despite their different influences—ranging from Rico Blanco, Kjwan, Zild, Slapshock, Queen, Nirvana to Juan Karlos—their collective sound doesn’t fit neatly in one genre box.
“Experimental rock kami,” Pipoy explains. “Ayaw naming limitahan ang musicianship ng banda. Dito kasi namin nae-express lahat.”
Writing Without Pressure, Playing Without Limits
Unlike many bands that rely on a strict creative process, Hypernoia thrives on randomness and collaboration.
“Ako kadalasan nagsisimula,” Pipoy admits. “Minsan 12 a.m. may maisip ako, sinusulat ko agad yung kanta. Then send sa group chat. Doon na kami nag-aareglo pag may free time lahat.”
But it’s never just one man’s show.
“Bigayan kami ng output. Way din namin yun para walang pressure. Lagi naming paalala—enjoyin lang ang music.”
The result? Songs that blend angst, motivation, and a mirror of everyday reality.
“Most of our lyrics are about being anti-social, motivation, at reyalidad ng buhay,” says Pipoy. “Di kami takot maghalo ng emosyon at eksperimento.”
The Song That Started It All: Emyu
If there’s one track that perfectly captures their signature mix of humor and heart, it’s Emyu.
“Ito yung paborito ng lahat sa banda,” Pipoy smiles. “Sya lang yung radio-friendly song namin—at tungkol pa sa friendzone!”
The song started as a joke among friends back in 2018.
“Nagtambay kami noon, naggitara ako habang yung tropa ko, na-friendzone. Inaasar ko lang sya, tas nabuo yung kanta. Random lines lang na naging totoo.”
Now, Emyu has become Hypernoia’s anthem—a testament that sometimes, fun can lead to something profound.
Stages That Feel Like Home
When asked about their most unforgettable gigs, two venues immediately come to mind: Bandstan Tayabas and Primum.
“Sa Bandstan, solid! Ang daming tao, sabay-sabay silang kumakanta. Sa Primum naman, kahit maliit lang, nagsiksikan lahat. Ramdam mo talaga yung energy,” shares Pipoy.
These moments fuel the band’s motivation to keep playing despite challenges.
“Time management lang talaga yung kalaban,” he admits. “Apat samin nag-aaral pa, dalawa working na. Pero gig is life.”
No Achievements Yet, Just Gratitude
When asked about their biggest achievement, Hypernoia answers humbly:
“Wala pa. Siguro yung ma-entertain namin yung audience, achievement na yun.”
But if you watch them perform, you’ll realize—these guys are already achieving something rare: authenticity. They’re not chasing fame; they’re chasing connection.
What’s Next for Hypernoia
The band is currently working on new material while aiming to record and release Emyu before 2025 ends.
“Meron na kaming mga kanta na aayusin pa lang,” says Pipoy. “Pag may oras, record agad.”
They also dream of collaborating with Numinous and Faded Chroma—bands they respect and share a deep friendship with.
A Message to Their Supporters
“Salamat sa lahat ng naniniwala at nakikinig sa amin. Wag kayong mag-alala, di kami titigil hangga’t kaya pa ng katawan. Sa susunod na limang taon, makikita niyo kami kung saan-saan tumutugtog. Nangyayari na nga ngayon.”
And when asked what they’d be doing if not for music?
“Kanya-kanyang buhay siguro,” he laughs. “Pero sa totoo lang, di na namin maisip mabuhay nang walang tugtugan.”

Final Echo
Hypernoia is more than just a band name—it’s a mindset. Thinking too hard, playing too loud, and feeling every note like it’s their last.
That’s the sound of Quezon’s next wave. That’s Hypernoia.
